Carmen Thyssen

This is an art gallery composed by funds from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza collection. The museum is housed in the Palacio de Villalón, using several adjacent buildings as exhibition spaces, conference rooms and offices. It was inaugurated on March 24, 2011. Facilities include, in addition to the exhibitions rooms dedicated to the Thyssen’s, the headquarters of this foundation, a library, rooms for temporary signs, a classroom, auditorium, museum shops, restaurant section and a archaeological exhibition hall.

There are now exhibition rooms in the Casa Natal, pictures and a view of how life was for Picasso in the early years in Malaga. Some people make the mistake and think that the Casa Natal is the Picasso Museum, be sure you visit both once you are here cause they are so close to each other.

Center for Contemporary Art

This is a museum located in the building of the former Wholesale Market in Malaga. It was opened on February 23, 2003. This is the most visited museum in Andalusia. It consists of 6000 square meters, of which 2400 are devoted to exhibitions. Inspired by the German model of ‘art house’ intended as a place of reflection on contemporary art, an open and dynamic center that became a benchmark of Spanish and European art in the twentieth and XXI century.

The Automobile Museum in Malaga is located in an emblematic building, the Edificio de La Tabacalera, former mill and tobacco store, which was built in 1923. It has 6000 square meters of space for entertainment, art and culture. Inside you can find the collection with over 120 restored cars. The exhibition areas are structured in thematic areas that show the evolution of aesthetically different models of the automotive industry over the last three centuries.

Donations from his daughter and his grandson made the Picasso Museum possible. The 233 works that bring together the collection include Picasso’s revolutionary innovations, as well as the wide variety of styles, techniques and materials he used. The building housing the museum, the Palacio de Buenavista, is a key monument in the history of Málaga, a fine example of Andalusia architecture of the sixteenth century, which is mixed by Renaissance and Mudejar elements.
